Tamba ware is said to have originated from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period, and is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan (certified as a Japan Heritage site). Tetsuji Ichino of Ichino Satoru Kiln (Tamba Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture) expresses geometric and smooth lines using his unique technique of "colored line inlay", where he carves patterns freehand and fills them with colored clay. He has achieved numerous accolades, including selection for the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition and the Hyogo Prefecture Arts Encouragement Award.
