Tamba ware is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan (certified as a Japan Heritage site), believed to have originated from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period. Tetsuji Ichino of Ichino Satoru Kiln (Tamba-Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture) uses his unique technique called "colored line inlay" (saishoku sen-zogan), where he freehand carves patterns and embeds colored clay, to express geometric and smooth lines. He has received numerous accolades, including selection for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and the Hyogo Prefectural Art Encouragement Award.
