A once-in-a-lifetime landscape created by earth and fire. Bizen ware sobachoko that blends into daily life.
Bizen ware, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, is a proud heritage of Okayama Prefecture. Without the use of any glaze, the "Hiiro" (fire color) and "Botamochi" patterns are created purely by the chemical reaction of earth and fire, making each piece unique – a natural art form.
Maison Toji selected this sobachoko because of its embodiment of "beauty in utility." Bizen ware may appear rustic at first glance, but when held, it has a warm, smooth texture that feels comfortable in the hand, and it blends seamlessly into modern dining settings. We were drawn to its versatility, as it can be used not only as a sobachoko but also as a teacup, dessert cup, or even as an interior decoration.
Earthy and robust texture that breathes with life The "yakishime" (unglazed, high-fired) texture, unique to Bizen ware, becomes smoother and more lustrous with use, developing a rich character over time. The natural gradation, utilizing the inherent colors of the clay, brings a sense of calm and sophistication to your table.
A versatile standard for daily life This cup is perfectly sized not only for enjoying soba noodles but also for tea, coffee, or even serving side dishes as a small bowl. Bizen ware is also known for its "tiny pores that prevent water from spoiling easily," making it suitable for arranging small seasonal flowers as a vase.
