Amber Glaze Bowl | Shozan Kiln

Tamba ware is said to have originated between the late Heian period and early Kamakura period, and is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (designated a Japan Heritage site). Shusaku Ichino of Shozogama kiln (Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture) is a ceramic artist who, after graduating from Ryukoku University, honed his craft at the Kyoto Prefectural Advanced Technical Training School for Pottery and continues the tradition as a third-generation potter. While cherishing traditional techniques, he creates contemporary works with rich colors and delicate glaze flows, and has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize in the Contemporary Ceramics Competition at the Kobe Biennale.
