One bowl, many uses: a versatile piece from Shozogama.

Tamba ware is said to have originated between the late Heian period and early Kamakura period, and is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (recognized as a Japan Heritage site). Shusaku Ichino of Shozogama in Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, studied at Ryukoku University before honing his craft at the Kyoto Prefectural Advanced Technical School of Ceramics. He continues to create pottery as a third-generation ceramic artist. While honoring traditional techniques, he creates contemporary pieces with rich colors and delicate flowing patterns, and has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize in the Contemporary Ceramics Competition at the Kobe Biennale.
