Tambaware is said to have originated from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period and is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan (certified as a Japan Heritage site). Shusaku Ichino of Shozo Kiln (Tambasasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture) is a potter who, after graduating from Ryukoku University, honed his skills at the Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Technology College and continues to create works as the third-generation head of the kiln. While cherishing traditional techniques, he creates modern pieces with rich colors and delicate flowing patterns.
