The Breath of White, Close to Everyday Life: The “Shinogi” Mug by Tamba Ware’s Gahogama.
Gahogama has been making Tamba ware in Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, since 1890. Today, fourth-generation potter Hideyuki Ichino, together with his sons Kenta and Daisuke, continues to create tableware suited to modern life while preserving the traditions of Tamba ware. This “shinogi” mug has arrived, bringing the warmth of handmade craftsmanship to an atmosphere of crisp, serene stillness.
01. The Play of Light and Shadow Created by Vertical “Shinogi” Grooves
The shadows cast by each vertically carved groove shift with the angle of the light, bringing rhythm and depth to your table. Enjoy the gentle yet striking landscape of white, reminiscent of kohiki slipware.
02. Generously Sized for a Moment of Indulgence
In your hand, you’ll be surprised by the balance of its soft texture and reassuring weight. Its slightly generous size is perfect for taking a moment away from a busy day to reset and unwind.
03. From Morning Milk Tea to Soup, a Versatile Favorite
Perfect for milk tea with plenty of milk or a hot café au lait that stays warm, its wide mouth also makes it ideal for serving potage soup. It’s a mug you’ll grow more fond of the more you use it.
