Tamba ware is considered to have originated between the late Heian period and the early Kamakura period, and is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (designated a Japan Heritage site). Shusaku Ichino of Shozogama in Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, studied at Ryukoku University before honing his craft at the Kyoto Prefectural Technical School for Ceramic Arts. Now working as a third-generation potter, he creates contemporary pieces with rich colors and delicate flowing patterns while honoring traditional techniques.
With its gracefully extended spout, this pitcher combines practicality and beauty. Simply placing it on the table adds a poised, elegant touch.
The soft transition from beige to pale green, characteristic of ash glaze, gives this piece a rustic yet refined look.
This handy-sized piece works beautifully as a sake vessel for chilled sake or shochu, as well as for serving dressing, dipping sauces, or other condiments.
