A reassuring sense of calm for everyday moments.
Founded in 1968 in Tamba-Sasayama, Shoyogama has continued to make pottery as a family business, passing its traditions from second-generation potter Hiroshi Ohue to third-generation potter Hiroki Ohue. This versatile shallow bowl is part of a collection distinguished by its matte finish, perfected through years of research, and the rich, earthy character unique to pottery made from clay.
01. A dependable depth for dishes with sauce
With just the right depth, it’s ideal for everything from side dishes like blanched greens and simmered vegetables to salads, fruit, and individual servings. Even when you have a set for the whole family, it feels light and uncluttered—and its stackable form is just as lovely, reflecting its thoughtful design as a practical everyday piece.
02. A distinctive matte finish that makes food shine
The soft, matte surface absorbs light and brings out the colors of your food. Its warm, welcoming tones are especially lovely with dishes served steaming hot.
03. Choose from three colors: Yuzu, Chestnut Brown, and Blue
Available in three colors—Yuzu (yellow), Chestnut Brown (brown), and Ao (blue)—and two sizes: small (16 cm) and large (19 cm). Each piece is made by hand using clay from Tamba, so subtle variations in color and shading occur depending on how the piece meets the flame and how the glaze settles. These differences are a sign that each piece is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime find.

As each piece is handmade, there may be individual variations in shape, color, and the character of the glaze. Color and shading also vary depending on how the piece meets the flame and how the glaze settles. Please enjoy these qualities as part of its handmade charm. |
■ Care for lasting use
- Due to the nature of the matte glaze, vigorous rubbing with metal cutlery may leave marks (metal marks). These can be reduced by washing or wiping the surface.
- Soaking the piece in water before its first use helps prevent oils and colors from food from soaking in.
- After use, allow it to dry thoroughly before storing.
■ Recommended pairings
Pair it with other colors in the same collection to create a complementary contrast that makes each color appear more vivid. Enjoy a colorful table setting inspired by the season or your mood that day. Explore more works by Shoyogama here.
